Who runs the world? Well, as Beyoncé would say, Girls. And March is a great time to show how strong they are, thanks to Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day. Yup, they’re definitely ruling. To celebrate, we’ve put together a run down of some influential women.
Women in History
Let’s start off this one with a nod to some pioneering women. We’re talking the likes of Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928) who gave us women’s votes, Rosa Parks (1913-2005) a civil rights activist who defied segregation laws on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955 and Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) who explored questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society through her art. Each one of these women, alongside others, helped shaped society in some form!
The Women of Today
The women around us in our everyday lives also show us what true strength and resilience look like. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, colleagues, and mentors who juggle multiple roles with grace and tenacity. These women may not be famous or have a large following, but they are the backbone of our society! Take the women who run businesses in our very own centre, or the mothers in centres who can often be seen going above and beyond to keep their children entertained while running errands. Their ability to overcome challenges, persevere through tough times, and uplift others is what makes them truly inspiring. Let’s celebrate and honour the women in our lives who inspire us every day!
International Women’s Day
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. One that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Where difference is valued and celebrated. On March 8th it’s time to come together to forge women’s equality and all #EmbraceEquity. There’s a range of ways to help do this, from buying little ones books on independent women to teaching them about how to treat everybody the same.
