Afternoon Tea Week celebrates this great British tradition. And what better way to catch up with loved ones than with a cuppa and some treats? #AfternoonTeaWeek takes place from August 8th to August 16th. Grab your bestie and head to The Plaza Cafe to be waited on, or why not pay tribute to the nation’s favourite pastime and host your own tea party?
Think freshly-brewed Earl Grey and homemade scones. To be the ‘hostess with the mostess’, you’ll need a teapot, teacups, cutlery, and cake slicers for serving. Charity shops like Marie Curie are a good source for reasonably priced chinaware to get that authentic old English tearoom look. Don’t worry if the patterns are mismatched! Grab a calligraphy pen from WHSmith for named place cards and head to Argos for a tiered cake stand for the centrepiece.
Three tips to get your tea party down to a T!
Prep your sandwiches. Classics include cucumber, smoked salmon and egg mayo.
Offer a variety of teas, like English Breakfast, and add to the mix some trendy options like chai or jasmine tea.
Throwing an afternoon tea party is all about having fun, so don’t feel that you have to bake all the cakes too! Pop to Sainsbury’s for a selection of delicious treats.
Add special touches with lace-like doilies, napkins, and party pieces from One Below. If you’re feeling especially fancy, treat guests to a glass of prosecco with their afternoon tea. It’s National Prosecco Day on the 13th of August, so why not make tea tipsy and raise a glass?
